Year 3 make their own clay Art inspired by fossils!
Inspired by the fossils we have been learning about in History, Year 3 tried to make our own. Our inspiration came from a question asked during our learning time;
“What would historians find left in Palm class after millions and millions of years had passed?”
In a skills lesson, Mrs Cheshire taught us about different techniques we could use to create texture in clay. We used tools and objects to imprint, cut, drag, scratch, mottle. Then we used objects and tools from around our classroom and playground to design and create slabs of clay with texture which we thought reflected our classroom and school. They look a lot like the fossils we have been learning about!
We have put our pieces together to make a wall of fossils in our classroom. The different effects we could create were unlimited and no two pieces look the same.
“I love working with clay, it makes me feel calm”
“I like this one because they have made very small details using leaves and they look very real.”
