10 May Palm Class design space food for Tim Peake
Year 3 have been designing comfort meals for Tim Peake on the International Space Station. Once the meals were designed, we then had to think of ways to persuade the European Space Mission to choose them to send to Tim!
As part of our Persuasive Advert topic in Literacy, and linking to our topic of “Gateway to the world” this term, Palm class have been learning about the sort of food Astronaut Tim Peake is able to eat in space and how it is designed and made on the ground before being heated in space. We thought the food looked a bit bland and not very exciting at all! But it’s difficult when you have to eat it out of a bag or a tin!
We have been thinking a lot about how food can bring us comfort, especially when we are far away from home, like Tim is right now, and each of us has designed a meal that we think we would like to have if we were on the International Space Station for 6 months ourselves.
As part of our Literacy Topic we have been thinking of ways we could persuade the European Space Mission to supply our food to the astronauts on the International Space Station. We have mind-mapped ideas, written descriptions and even developed and performed our own TV ads to sell our meals. This week we are using all the ideas and strategies we have learned to plan and write a formal, persuasive advert targeting the European Space Mission.
See some of our ideas in our classroom, in our books and on our class page (pictures coming soon).
