Louisa Minter-Kemp

Corporate Responsibility Executive, Schroders

“I work for Schroders, an asset management company. We help people and other companies look after their money. “I’m in the Corporate Responsibility team. Part of my job is helping charities, schools and people all around the country achieve their missions in a variety of ways. “What I like best about my work is that I get to meet lots of different people, like you today. And I help people achieve things they wouldn’t be able to do without our support. “Teamwork is the most important skill for this kind of work. You have to be open-minded, willing to work with anyone. Passion is also so important: that has a positive effect on everyone around you.” “I grew up in the countryside in Devon, in southwest England. When I was your age I dreamed of being an interior designer. That’s someone who designs the inside of a building; it could be a big building or a house. “Now I dream of taking a year off work and travelling around the world, maybe working for some kind of animal documentary programme. Have you seen Planet Earth? I’d love to help make something like that.” What’s your favourite charity you’ve worked with? “My favourite so far is Guide Dogs. They came to our office last year with young dogs, puppies who are training to be guide dogs. We wore blindfolds and they had to lead us around an obstacle course, the way they would lead a blind person. We raised lots of money for Guide Dogs!”

“My advice to myself at your age would be: enjoy yourself! Try to take every single opportunity that comes your way. Get involved in everything you can: music, dance, sports… And enjoy each other’s company: take time to be kind and make friends.”
